Youth Court Program Coordinator

Reports to: Youth Court Program Director

Job Type: Full-Time Non-Exempt, In Person - limited hybrid opportunity

PURPOSE OF JOB:

The Primary role of this position is to support youth related programs at The Partnership for Ontario County with the primary focus on the Youth Court program.

Youth Court is a diversion program for youth who have committed a first-time offense or violation to provide an alternative to traditional juvenile justice and school discipline. The program coordinator will work with Probation, schools, magistrates, and other law enforcement to intervene in early antisocial and delinquent behaviors and reduce future incidences. The program coordinator will work with respondents, parents, and student peer court volunteers, utilizing a restorative justice model to reduce recidivism and empower youth to develop their strengths and leadership skills.

The person in this role will work primarily out of the main office in Canandaigua, with program satellite locations throughout Ontario County for events and meetings. Some limited hybrid options are available.

ACTIVITIES AND FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervise and manage youth participants and adult volunteers.

  • Recruit youth court members and co-facilitate 20-hour training curriculum.

  • Communicate with court clerks and coordinate courtroom calendar.

  • Conduct pre-court interviews with respondents and their families.

  • Oversee assigned youth court hearings with youth member volunteers and respondents.

  • Ensure a high sanction completion rate by developing community service sites and active case management.

  • Meet with the program director for supervision on a regular basis.

  • Prepare a monthly report of caseload and outcomes and case conference with the program director monthly.

  • Attend community meetings and trainings.

  • Collaborate with community partners.

  • Generate and sustain community support.

  • Coordinate initiatives designed to promote the program and its services to schools, churches, community etc.

  • Ensure confidentiality of all participants and all Youth Court records

  • Complete other duties as assigned as related to the program and organization.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/SKILLS:

  • Associates degree preferred

  • At least 2 years of experience working with youth

  • Experience training youth and youth development

  • Equivalent combination of life experience, work experience and education will be considered.

  • Ability to work as a part of a team

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule (some evenings required)

  • Self-starter, able to implement programs and work with a wide range of people—youth and families, service providers, school personnel and criminal justice agencies.

  • Valid NYS Driver’s License and reliable vehicle

  • Successful completion of a background check

Rate of Pay: Dependent on education and experience. $20-22/hr
